Overcoming Adversity

http://youtu.be/-csZlbMGdhM

For Family Home Evening this week we talked about overcoming adversity. David asked the kids what the word means and what kind of adversity we each face. Then we watched this powerful Mormon Message video on YouTube.

Even though our challenges are nothing like the girl in the video, they are real to us. For the kids, the challenge most prevalent in their lives now relate to the move. It's hard to uproot and leave great friends and family.

For David and me, part of our challenge is watching the kids struggle. It seems like Ethan hasn't cracked a smile in the two weeks since we've been here. Nataleigh wrote in her journal that she has "cried her eyes out" because she is so sad we moved. It makes our hearts ache to see them so sad.

In addition, David and I are thinking a lot about Oliver and Jacob and their future. We are concerned about starting a new business and we, too, have to adjust to a new house, a new neighborhood, and new surroundings. When you add it all together...new baby, new house, new business it can seem daunting.

We were all inspired by this video. We talked to the kids about what "Katie" has accomplished in her life. We talked about the power and importance of attitude.

We all pledged to work a little harder to have a positive attitude in overcoming our challenges. I know things will get better. I know that Heavenly Father is aware of us. I know with faith we will be okay.
