In Santa Clara the neighbors have banded together and instead of giving neighbor gifts they ask for a small donation and pool that money to give to worthwhile causes. Then the neighborhood gets together for hay rides with caroling and hot chocolate with doughnuts. It's a wonderful tradition that we are so excited to be a part of.
This year, however, the neighborhood committee choose not to collect any money. They said that the neighborhood had already donated much time and money to helping the flood victims. If anyone wanted to do something more, than they could do it privately. It was the right decision. We still gathered as a neighborhood for hay rides, singing, and treats. This year they mounted a huge speaker to the top of a truck so that wherever we went people could hear the music. It was fun to cuddle together and sing songs while looking at the beautiful Christmas lights.
