The Geneticist

I have two boys with Fragile X. In order to best serve them we are starting to build our "team" of doctors and specialists. I can't reiterate enough the importance of parents being pro-active and becoming your child's advocate. It's imperative!

Last week David and I met with a geneticist, Dr. Ellen Arch, who was terrific. We spent 3 hours in her office and she helped us understand how Fragile X would affect the lives of our boys. It made me really appreciate the years of dedication that doctors give to their specialties. She gave us a lot of resources to help Jacob including referrals for speech therapy, a social skills class, a gymnastics class for kids with autism spectrum disorders, an opthamologist to check Jacob's vision, and even horse therapy. Dr. Arch helped us feel really "plugged-in" to the network of services here and we are very encouraged!
